Pretty much everyone has goals, right? For some people, it might simply be to make that promotion and earn a little more money and for some, it might be something a bit more ambitious like giving up work and traveling the world for a few years; it doesn’t really matter what our goals are, they are always important to us, and it is possible to achieve them if we set our minds to it.

If you have a list of goals that you desperately want to achieve, but you haven’t been having any success so far, or you’ve been so afraid of failure that you haven’t even begun to try shooting for them yet, it’s time to get serious and start doing the things that will help you finally achieve your dreams. Yes, it may take some time, and it will definitely take some work, but you can do it…

Become Accountable

The most important thing that you must do if you want to achieve any goal, no matter how big or small, is become accountable. You will not achieve anything unless you make yourself accountable for your own actions. Here’s the thing, no one else is going to do it for you; if you want to achieve a dream or reach a goal, you need to put the work in.

A lot of people think that being accountable is hard work. They think that it a drudge to have to force themselves to do the thing they know they need to do even when they don’t want to, and that is why they fail. If you want to be successful, you need to look at things differently; you need to see that course that will qualify you for promotion as a good thing, something that is enriching your life and making your future brighter, or you need to see staying in a bit more so that you can save for that trip as a fun life’s journey in itself - a time to relax and have fun playing board games, watching great movies or pampering yourself, instead of something boring. Reframe the hard stuff and make it fun and it’ll be so much easier to achieve your goals, and you’ll never feel like you're putting your life on hold now to achieve something in the future.

Get Creative

Whether you think of yourself as a creative person or not, if you want to achieve all of the goals you have, you need to foster a more creative mindset. No matter what you want to achieve, or how difficult you think it might be to get there, if you look at your problem from every conceivable angle, thinking in ways you may never have thought before, solutions will reveal themselves to you and you will find your way to happiness far faster. It is possible to boost your creativity via various means, so spend some time doing that. It will help you achieve your goals and enrich your life as a whole.

Don’t Be Afraid to Take a Leap

Everyone who’s ever achieved anything of note has, at some point taken a huge leap. If you want to achieve your goals, it probably means going out of your comfort zone, even just a little. You may be scared to get into debt by taking a no credit check loan to start your dream fashion business or you might be terrified of leaving everything you’ve known to volunteer in Africa, but if you don’t do it, you will never get anywhere and your life will be far less interesting than it could otherwise have been. Of course, you don’t need to leap into the deep end immediately. If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can take lots of smaller steps until you’re comfortable with that big leap, but you should always be pushing yourself and moving forward because otherwise, you’ll stagnate.

You Have to Really Want It

One of the major reasons why people never really meet their goals is because they simply don’t want them enough. They have a vague idea that it would be cool to be a writer or it’d be fun to go and live in Thailand for a year, but they don’t have a burning passion for it. Since achieving most goals takes lots of time, patience, effort, energy and often money, if a real desire isn’t there, it just won’t happen. What this means for you is that you should focus only on those goals that you really, really want because otherwise, you’ll be wasting all of your resources on things that don’t matter. Save yourself for the stuff that you most want and it’ll be easier to get it.

Take Care of Your Mental Health

When you’re striving towards a goal. You will undoubtedly go through some tough times and you may face a setback or two along the way. That’s why it’s so important that you take time out for self-care. Whether you meditate, do yoga, go to the spa or simply put your feet up with a good book, do the things that relax you and make you happy as often as you can and you’re far more likely to stick to working on achieving your goals.

Ask for Help

So many people fall short of achieving their dreams because they are too scared or proud to ask for help, but everyone needs help from time to time, and you’d be surprised how many people are willing to give it if only you take the time to ask them. So, talk to friends, family, and mentors, let them know what you’re doing and what you’re trying to achieve and accept help when it is given.

Never Give Up

Of course, no one ever achieves their goals by giving up, so don’t. Even when times get really hard and it feels like it’s never going to happen, keep going, keep pushing forward and hold your head up high. Chances are you’ll experience a breakthrough and get back on track, but even if you don’t at least you’ll know you did everything you could to make your dreams a reality.

Asking for help is so necessary! Someone has walked the same road you're trying to take before and their knowledge can be indispensable!
