July Goals - Mid Year Review

Can't believe June is coming to an end. I feel like the month just began and here we are at the end already. I kind of feel that way about the whole bloody year. Seriously, how can it be July?? I'm having a hard time believing that I've actually accomplished several big goals this year already.

Sometimes, I want to pinch my self and say:

Hey - Is This Really Happening?

So, what were the goals I set and what have I done/how have I accomplished them?

  1. The House of My Dreams
I am amazed this has actually happened.  It is remarkable that the right house became available at the right time and for the right price.  UNBELIEVABLE.  Granted I've been visualizing living in that type of house since I can remember, but yay for visualization that comes to fruition!

  1. My Blog
Finally, I started it and am really enjoying writing.  Been nice to promote something I believe in and enjoy.  Though, I must admit that there have been a few times when I'm like - do I really have anything important to say?  And sometimes, I'm just not sure.

  1. Out of PPD
This time last year, I was a mess of tears ALL OF THE TIME.  My tear ducts wouldn't quit and the worst of it was I COULD NOT answer why the tears were coming out.  There wasn't anything in particular wrong except I was working full time, a new mom, a wife, and EVERYTHING FELT WRONG though NOTHING WAS WRONG.  I am a get in there and get it done kind of girl.  I didn't feel like doing anything except crying and sleeping for months on end.  There are 2 pretty obvious signifiers of depression, but previously, there was a nagging reason behind my sadness (loss of parent figures being a big one).  There was no root, nothing I could figure out to overcome except myself.  More to come on this in another post.  Focusing on the positive in this post!

  1. Moving into a real community

This is not to say I don't have fantastic friends - I most certainly do.  I've actually known probably 90% of my friends since I was 10 years old and we're still besties, but I haven't been part of a community since I was 18.  You know the type of friends that you can just hang with, come over for a glass of wine for no reason, have parties together, your kids grow up together kind of stuff.  That's where we're moving!  I am so ecstatic I can barely stay in my pants.

  1. Made Progress with My Blog
This is different than just me setting up a blog and hoping it'll all work out.  I actually make pretty things I really like (even if no one else does-who cares?!).  I have 542 Twitter followers today and I just started blogging May 1st!  So far, I've gotten around 607 pageviews a month which is pretty awesome!  I've also found some really cool other avenues like Patreon, Zazzle, and Payhip to actually get paid for making stuff.  This is AWESOME.

Not to brag, but it's been a pretty kick a$$ first part of the year.  And you know how I began?

I wrote everything I wanted down in DETAIL.

June's Reading List

As I mentioned in my May Reading List, reading is my favorite.  Yes, hear it in a 7 year's old voice almost at the point of a whine.  As an only child, it was my primary form of amusement.  Finding good books to read always makes me smile.  This month's reads seemed to have a theme of what matters to the soul, what is integrity, and how do we define loyalty.  I certainly didn't think I was embarking on a soul-searching selection of books this month, but alas, I guess I have.

First up is The Fountainhead.

I never read this as part of my class curriculum growing up in school.  To be honest, I really can't figure out why it wasn't on the must-read list in high school and if not high school, then college.  First off, it is LOOONNNGGG.  I mean 752 pages long!  I'm listening to it instead of reading it.  You might think that's less long, but it is a 32 HOUR long book!  Once you get past that, it's very descriptive, rather pithy, and you definitely must have a bit a lot of suspension of disbelief to get through it.  That being said, I love this book.  The characters become entirely alive and you are rooting for Roark almost from the outset.  You also want to strangle him for being so principled and such a hero.  It definitely allows you ponder for yourself what is the ideal, what is loyalty, and what is worth sacrificing yourself if anything.

Next, A Wrinkle in Time

Again, another book, I never read even though it came out originally in the 60s.  I was actually surprised to learn that it had been published so many years ago when Disney just made the new movie.  While there are parts that seem a bit juvenile, it reads like many of the young adult books turned adult best sellers.  There is obviously time travel and searching for the childrens' father, but it becomes so much more.  L'Engle relied heavily on Einstein and other notable physicists of the time to really weave in more real elements of what time travel would be like.  Another keeper and I can't wait to see the movie!

Last, A Hundred Summers

A Hundred Summers is a fantastic read!  A beautifully written period piece when families summered at the beach, society mattered, and loyalty comes into question between lovers and friends.  Back to the loyalty theme, it seems.  This is more of a true beach read particularly since it takes place at the beach, but the themes in it are certainly more robust than normal chic lit.  Everyone's reputation gets put to the test; both for the right and wrong reasons.

As you might be able to tell, I really love all things journaling.  I love pens, washi tape, glue sticks, glitter glue, markers, brush pens, notebooks of every kind, paint....you get the idea.  I am also very cheap; not to mention, if I bought every journaling supply I wanted, I would be broke.  I don't know why these supplies are so expensive but they are!  It's annoying, but I've found some workarounds.

The Wish App or Wish.com has been the best find I've found so far.  Now, granted you have to be patient.  The stuff I've received has shipped direct from China which means it takes 6 plus weeks to get to you.  That being said, Frixon erasable pens are $1 a piece!

A pack of 10 fineliners for $4!!!

Black Fine Line pens (6) for $5!!!

These I've all purchased myself and DO NOT get a commission if you purchase.  They all work fantastically.  Although the white writing on the outside of the black pens is starting to rub off within 2 months, but who cares?  The pen still works!!

Dollar Tree has great stuff and EVERYTHING is a buck!  They have washi tape, pens, glue sticks, markers, colored pencils, crayons, every type of school supply you could want.  The washi is cute too!  Just look at the picture below!

They even have PRINTABLES!  I didn't know that Dollar Tree had a loyalty program, but they do which is where I found the printables and TONS of other ideas for stuff!

They even have recipes!  Think I'll make these egg cups tonight!
Clearly, I love the Dollar Store!  💗💗💗❣

Of course, I have to mention Dollar General if I'm going to mention Dollar Tree.  The selection can be a bit limited, but for basics it's awesome!

$5 for a portable art set - sign me up!
They even have art pastels for $3!  I haven't purchased these yet because I didn't want to invest in pastels and end up hating them.  For $3, I'll try it!

Last, but not least, there's Amazon which of course has everything!  However, it isn't always the cheapest.  That being said, the huge value add is you don't have to leave the house and go to the store and search through a bunch of crap you don't need or want.  You type in the search bar and voila - there it is!  Here are a couple of my recent favorite finds for under $5:

Have I mentioned the Frixon Erasable Pens?  Oh Wait I Have, but I LOVE THEM!!

So, there are my top picks for cheap journaling/bujo supplies!

What are your favorites?
